I thought Jogja people like to rear birds. There are a lot of bird vendors such as the one in the picture. However the tour guide set me straight by informing they actually bought the pigeons back for the meat. Yeap, pigeons are treated like chickens in Jogja.
It is bigger than it looks
On the way to see Mount Merapi, we passed by this dam. It was raining so pardon the spots on the picture. Offhandedly I remarked to Windy (our self appointed tour guide) that Indonesia also use water for electricity. He looked a bit puzzled. Then I pointed at the dam. He got a shocked look on his face and informed me, that it is not a water dam. It is a lava dam, built to hold back the lava from flowing into the city. Yeap, after that I just shut my mouth and look at the scenary.
Soup anyone?
Found this entry in the menu at one of the restaurants in the airport. It was so funny, I was just laughing and laughing at the entry until I realize the waiter was also trying very hard not to laugh at me. It is common in Indonesia, that oxtail soup is known as sop buntut. Yeap, what is so funny about it?
We are the world..we are the children..
While buying batik downtown, we saw this big group of people walking by with a big globe. I thought it was a protest and was quite worried but the shop keeper told me, it's a not a protest, it's just a march. It was World Day that day. Can you do that in Malaysia peacefully?
